Wow Cow BBQ 六扇门烧烤啤酒坊

If you’ve been following me on instagram, you’ll know that I’ve been super craving Chinese Food the last few weeks. With the surge of mainland Chinese nationals in Metro Manila, the variety of authentic flavours in Metro Manila have been getting better and better.Since we’ve had our fair share of hotpots in Makati and Eastwood in the last two weeks, we’ve been craving something a bit different.

After spending my lunch at Max’s Kabisera for the Philpop x NCQ partnership press conference, we were on a search for a new Chinese restaurant we haven’t tried before in BGC for dinner. While we initially drawn to the beautiful facade and interiors of their famous Wow Cow Club House, we had no cause for celebration to justify the minimum Php 10k  per head spend. Instead, we opted for their more approachable sister restaurant next door, the Wow Cow BBQ.

Opened in June 2019, Wow Cow BBQ comes from the same group that brought you Wow Cow Hotpot at Uptown Parade & Salcedo Village and the Wow Cow Club House at the Fort Strip. Wow Cow is known for their meat and ingredients locally and using natural spring water for their dishes.

On average, their Hotpot branch is known to cost at least Php 4600 for two (or Php 2,300) per head because of their hand-sliced quality meat and unlimited side dish policy. As someone who frequents hotpot places, it is known to be a communal experience to share the hotpot broth which the cost of is spread out the more you are in the group. If you’re four people, it’s estimated that you will need to pay around Php 6,800 (or Php 1,700) and the number just gets smaller from there. If ever you do decide to pay them a visit, save yourself the heart attack at checkout and just go in a bigger group!

That being said, Php 1700 per person is still not a small number. Which is why even if I’m still on the quest for Metro Manila’s best hotpot, trying their Wow Cow Hotpot branch will have to wait until I get my finances in order. For now, we decided to try their Wow Cow BBQ where we can still get the quality meat and authentic flavour within our date night budget.

The interior was cozy with music videos from Chinese singers playing on the TV and karaoke machines ready to be used. On that particular Friday night, a lot of the tables on the ground floor were reserved so we headed over the second floor.

You can easily tell that the restaurant wasn’t designed for Filipinos in particular just from the way their tablet, while having English translations for the selection, is completely Chinese upon check out and payment.

Dinner begins with appetizers and a selection of various spices that you could add to your BBQ dishes, inclusive with your orders. My favourite is the cumin-based one on the top left side. I’ve eaten at a lot of Chinese restaurants in Metro Manila, but you don’t often get the flavours Wow Cow has with their side dishes.

They gave us the option to cook our order on top of the coal fire or have one of their staff members do it for us. While I love being able to control how cooked my meat is and the act of cooking is generally fun for me, I was exhausted on this particular Friday night and appreciated this option.

The staff was professional, got the texture right and it was cooked pretty well.

What I really enjoyed for this meal was actually the skewer sets. While argueably small in appearance, they are definitely packed with flavour and well-seasoned! Coming at around Php 80 each, some skewers were more worth it than others.

While the beef skewers were good in their own right, I have to say that the meat ball skewer was my personal favourite. The garlic sprouts were a good mix to add for that fun crunchy energy.

All in all, a fun way to eat Chinese BBQ in Metro Manila to get that authentic taste and a chance to try the Wow Cow brand without breaking the bank.

Funny enough, when we asked for the receipt, it was all in Chinese. I recommend taking a picture of your tablet so you remember the price of the things you ordered so even if you can’t read the receipt, you can still see the prices match. Alternatively, you can also ask them to give you another one in English.

Located at The Fort Strip, Taguig you can make a reservation online on their Facebook page, or email them at wowcowhotpot6868@gmail.com. They are open from 5pm to 11pm daily.
