Thean Hou Temple

I’ll be honest and say that my trip to Malaysia was primarily just to eat. I love how Malaysia’s cuisine is just as diverse as it’s people with Indian, Chinese and Malay food to excite the senses. Besides the Thean Hou Temple, the only other tourist spot I went to was the Petronas Twin Towers. Truly though, I have very little regrets about that.

The Thean Hou temple is a Chinese temple dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu but houses two other goddess, Guan Yin & Shui Wei Sheng Niang. It is situated on top of Robson Heights on Lorong Bellamy.  It’s quite a new temple! It officially opened in 1989 after only 2 years of constructions and consists of 6 tiers with architectural elements from Buddhism, Taoism and Confusionism. To be honest, what really drew me to the temple was the grand architecture.

Probably one of the few regrets I have (other than not going to the Batu Caves) is not experiencing the different activities conducted here. They offered traditional Chinese classes in Qigong, Tai Chi and Wushu. In a way, the temple was a representation of different aspects of Chinese culture in Malaysia from classes, weddings, festivals and so on.

If you don’t have much in Kuala Lumpur, this is a nice place to go. Pleasant, relaxing, culturally immersive and visually interesting, it’s a good place to enjoy an hour or two of time.
