The Petronas Twin Towers

Truth to be told, the intention for my Kuala Lumpur trip wasn’t really to tour the tourist sites. It was to spend time in the city that my boyfriend grew up in. Even if he eventually moved to the UK, there’s something about seeing the places the person you love used to frequent in the years you didn’t know about each other yet. While I only went to one other tourist site (the Thean Hou Temple), I decided that I should at least go to the famous Petronas Twin Towers.

We decided to go to the KLCC Water Fountain show with a beautiful view of the KL skyline behind it. You can find it in the KLCC park which is considered to be one of the masterpieces of the famous Brazillian landscape artist named Roberto Burle Marx. On weekdays, the KLCC fountain water show takes place from 12 pm to 2:00 pm, and 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. While it is on from 10:00 am to 12 midnight during public holidays and the weekends. You can watch the show at noon each day in case you do not have time for a night show. However, the KLCC fountain show will be much more magnificent and impressive at night. I suggest going to the evening show though, because it will have colored lights that you wont be able to see during the day and also music. While it doesn’t always start on time at night, you’ll count on it running from 8pm onwards.

At 88 storeys, the Petronas Twin Towers was once the tallest buildings in the world (for about 6 years lol) from 1998 to 2004, but it’s still the tallest twin towers! It took 6 years of 24 hour construction to complete, just as long as it was the tallest building. I used to think it’s called Petronas Twin Towers because the only company inside was only Petronas, Malaysia’s national oil company. You can imagine how my boyfriend rolled his eyes at me when I said so.

I visited the place on a weekend evening so you can imagine the large number of tourists competing to take nice photos. I’ve found that if you utilize the ledges on the side, you can have decent photos with no other tourists that require no editing.

I’m not a massive skyscraper fan, so if it wasn’t for the pre-work and learning about it’s history and background, I don’t think I would have appreciated it as much. Still, it’s iconic and worth a visit if not simply to appreciate it.
