Spinning at Ride Revolution
The last time I went spinning was a 30 minute trial session during WeWork RCBC’s Fitness for Founders night at Saddle Row, Rockwell. Other than that, it was just those quick classes at Gold’s Gym. Suffice to say, it was the first full length spin class I was going to attend and I was worried that I would ended up barfing again (like the first time I tried it in college).
I’ve been hearing a lot of good things about Ride Revolution from my friends and it piqued my interest. Admittedly, I’ve been making a lot of excuses not to go because I’m not very confident with my cardio. But when my older sister who had gone several times before asked if I wanted to join her and I found out that it was available on ClassPass, I took it as a sign from the universe that I needed to stop making excuses.
I had a bit of a hard time finding the studio as even if I’ve been to Greenbelt 5 many times before, I never had a reason to go up to the Fourth Floor. I walked a lot more than I thought I would trying to find it and even more when I realized I didn’t bring socks 15 minutes before the class started. I had to run all the way to Marks and Spencer’s to buy a (few) pairs!
Upon check-in, they confirmed my ClassPass reservation , the first step was signing a waiver and answering a questionnaire about my physical fitness which to be honest made me a bit nervous because they made me think I might injure myself during the class. Afterwards, they assigned me a bike and gave me the cycling shoes to wear for the workout.
Lockers were electronic which means you have to make a code for yourself. I have to say that while I appreciate it because I always forget to bring my own lock and panic when I go to gyms without them, I’m so stupid with these fancy lockers, especially the ones at Saddle Row. I had to ask my sister how to do it (so embarrassing)!
As a policy, no phones are allowed inside the spinning area and you can either leave yours in the locker or at the front desk, if you are waiting for a probably emergency call. I like that they have that option because as an entrepreneur, I really can’t help but have moments when I worry being away from my phone, even if it’s just for an hour.
Luckily, I was able to make it back in time for the 12:15pm class with Maxzo and was able to take my place on the last row! I really appreciate that they were kind enough to help me set up the bike to the right distance and height without me asking. They taught me to how to click the shoes in place on the stationary bike. There was also a small towel already available on the bike for the inevitable sweat!
It’s said that the gluteus maximus and the quadriceps, the muscles you use on the spinning bike use a lot of energy because they’re so large. On average, they say you burn about 400 – 600 calories per spinning session without the impact on your knees, unlike the treadmill which I personally hate.
As for the class itself, it was a combination of low resistant sprints and slow but high resistance sequences with breaks in between. I really loved the energy and party-like vibe. There were times I actually didn’t feel like I was working out. Since there was only six people in our class at the time, the room was cool and well-ventilated enough that I surprisingly didn’t feel like I was going to die too much.
While the instructor was great at keeping the energy, I like that I could control my pace, not over-exert myself and go at a comfortable pace. All in all, I think it’s a great low-impact, high intensity work out that I’d love to include regularly in my fitness studio cycle.
It’s a bit silly typing it out but after the class, I loved their shower. The class comes with free use of their towels and a shower room with free shampoo and soap. It’s such a small thing but the showers felt like the ones you get at fancy hotels and it capped off the experience quite well.
Really enjoyed, definitely want to go back and happy that you can book a class through ClassPass for people like me who are somewhat non-committal with the kind of fitness activities I want to do regularly. I think it’s a great way to workout in between weight training and when my upper body is exhausted from other activities.
Looking forward to the next session already!
