Parkour 101 at Muscle Up Parkour Gym & Urban Training Ground

I’ve always been a fan of parkour and I’ve always felt it to be something practical given that I’m always running away from something. Just kidding.

While I’ve taken a session or two at Ninja Academy before and enjoy their obstacle course, I always felt like I needed to learn a little more about fundamental techniques. For this, I searched for a class in Metro Manila that could do that and found Muscle Up in Maginhawa, Quezon City.

In 2017, MuscleUp opened in Maginhawa, Quezon City with the intent of providing quality fitness and long-term training through Parkour, Muay Thai, Boxing, Applicable Strength, Functional Fitness, and holistic movement for anyone and everyone. They’re open everyday from 6:00am and 10:00pm!

I quickly booked  GuavaPass class at 5:30pm – 7:00pm on a Saturday and dragged a few friends while I was at it!

Our coach gave us a multitude of techniques that ranged from simple things like how to walk properly, crouching on the floor with the proper hand movements, how to jump over elevated obstacles and jumping across distances marked by weights.

I definitely recommend going to this class with friends! It was a lot of fun and felt like a game. My friends and I have varying levels of fitness, but we all enjoyed in our own way.

Our coach was really fun and taught me how to properly scale walls. While I was reasonably shaking when the next photo was taken, it really helpful to have someone walk you through the right way to do things slowly.
