La Prosciutteria
Located along Via de Neri, and a few blocks away from Piazza della Signoria, the La Prosciutteria is one of Florence’s best sandwich shops. Incredibly high rated in almost all travel forums, we couldn’t go to Florence without trying them out. We weren’t disappointed.
The shop is simple enough, two branches located across each other with a handful of nice staff who give the best recommendations of sandwich combinations they can think of. Their titles are unpretentious and straight to the point, you’ll know exactly what’s going to be in your sandwich by the time they serve it to you.
Surprisingly, they were also pretty affordable. Unlike most sit-down restaurants in Florence, there is no service charge here, no cover charge and free water. They also have a great tasting house wine for only 2.50 Euros, one that you can’t find anywhere else in Florence. I particularly loved their white wine.
With a wide assortment of wines, cheese and salami, there is so much you can do to make the perfect sandwich. I recommend the salami platter, but if you’re ordering a sandwich I guarantee that the size is going to be more than enough. If you don’t know what to order, the staff are more than capable and willing to make their bestsellers or personal favourites for you.
The ambience was a perfect. It was very comfortable, and casual. The warm lighting and interior design is perfect for a great conversation. The tables fill up fast, but the staff never rush you to finish your food. With all kinds of meat hanging from the ceiling and wine bottles on the walls, the small shop has a lot to look at. The very relaxed atmosphere is what you’ll be paying for when you go here, that’s for sure.
One of the best sandwich shops I’ve tried in Italy so far, and I super recommend it for an afternoon brunch. Great value for the food, the place is easy to find and the service is a 10.
