L ’Antica Trattoria Da Tito

Paul and I decided to go to Trattoria da Tito, one of Florence’s best rated restaurants in San Galo. It’s been around for quite some time, since the 1913, and is known to serve authentic Florentine dishes. Like most Italian restaurants, they did not open until after 1pm, which was difficult for us since we were both used to eating lunch a bit earlier. The place is actually a bit far from the main attractions in Florence, so it was a bit difficult for us to find. Thankfully, we arrived at the location a bit early, so there was no one around and we managed to take pictures without looking too embarrassing.

We were the first customers for the day, so we were able to fully appreciate the ambience and the staff for the first few minutes of our stay. Personally, I was really impressed with their service. The staff were all smiling, and joked around with us. They were all pleasant and chatted us up a lot and were even nice enough to take a couple of photos for us.  SONY DSC

They started us off with a free platter of cheese and walnuts, which we thoroughly enjoyed because we were already quite hungry from the long walk there. I’m not sure if it is really that good, or we were just that hungry. Either way, it was a good way to start.

Then we ordered potatoes, which I wasn’t able to take a photo of because the 2.2lbs Bistecca Florentina stole the show a few minutes after. A T-bone steak cooked so perfectly tender and sumptuous, and this is no exaggeration. We couldn’t believe that this was their smallest size. I had never eaten steak that good in my entire life.

It took us around 2 hours to finish eating it. Half-way through our lunch the place was beginning to be filled up with a lot of people. What we noticed was that most of them were locals, and we were the only Asians in the room from the beginning to end.

The staff was nice enough to have given us an entire bottle of limoncello, a lemon liqueur that Italy was known for on the house. They didn’t let us get our bill until we finished the whole bottle, which was a lot for two people. It was honestly one of the most enjoyable lunches I had ever had in my life.

I would definitely, definitely go back one day and I recommend anyone who’s interested in a little fine dining to try it here as well. Great food, great ambience, and excellent service. 5 stars for me!
