Barre at Wings to Wings

Barre is one of those things I’ve always wanted to try but I’ve never been able to. One reason is that purchasing classes per session is usually beyond what I can afford to pay and another is that there aren’t that many studios near where I worked in Manila with schedules that I could follow. Thankfully, Guava Pass helped solve that issue!

The Studio

Wings to Wings is a dance studio located at the 3rd level of the OUE Downtown Gallery at 6 Shenton Way in Singapore. When I looked through their class offerings, they had everything from dance, zumba, yoga, pilates to barre from 12pm to 8pm.

The Class

I took the Barre Method (45) which is a 45 minute class that was a combination of both ballet movements and upbeat music. Initially, I thought it was going to be a very easy class, but holding tackling multiple muscle groups while holding a pose for a while made my thighs shake!

The isometric strength training focused on particular muscle groups with high reps and small movements. It started with a full body warm up, lower body squats and kicks, an exercise ball between your legs, light arm weights, resistance band training, and finished off with a mat-based cool down.

For someone who enjoys classes like boxing, martial arts and spinning, it was a relaxing break from my intense sessions and was a great way to stretch out my tight muscles and work on toning with minimal stress. It’s a different kind of strength training which in its own right is also quite effective.
