Balkan
Balkan is a family-owned Yugoslavian bar with locations in San Juan, BGC and Makati. I visited their location at Crossroads, BGC. It’s a great sports bar with weekly performances from local artists and pretty good happy hour rates. The founder, Marko Betricevic, was born in Serbia but came to the Philippines to play basketball at De la Salle Greenhills. Though his term as captain was short-lived due to injuries, he managed to channel his passions into his newfound business venture instead.
They have several promos throughout the day: the Unlimited Draft Beer with San Miguel Pale Pilsen at Php499, Bucket of 6 San Miguel light for Php360, 3 Budweiser for Php320, Macho 1L Mugs for San Miguel Pale Premium Superdry at Php 249 and Heineken Draught at Php349.
Their happy hour runs from 2-8pm every day. All drinks except wine and beer are 50% off.
Their happy hour is relatively more expensive than those in the surrounding area, but what I personally loved about this bar was that they had such a great ambiance. The place was very cozy, a bit dark and a fun place to be. They had amazing performers who were talented, fun and had a great set.
For a group filled with singers, we couldn’t resist singing along to some old school songs. The live band definitely made a difference for us. I regret not getting the name of the band who performed!
There are definitely cheaper places to drink, but if you’re up for a less crowded space and good entertainment, it’s definitely worth the extra buck or two.
